Making Life Celebrations Sweeter One Cake at a Time
Cakes by Sarah started as a last minute wedding request and quickly became an Instagram-able, delectable success.
Our Suite Spot feature today is about a very sweet business! Sarah Smith started baking as a creative outlet. But soon, her part-time hobby became a fully baked business that's now known as Cakes by Sarah.
Sarah's first professional cake was made for her best friend's wedding that was changed last minute. After coming to the rescue for her friend, Sarah realized her cake didn't look too bad! Sarah shared, "It started as something to look forward to for every holiday with my family. Next thing I knew, I had people reaching out to me on Instagram ordering cakes!"

Since that wedding, Sarah has made cakes for a variety of occasions from 1st birthday "smash" cakes to bachelorette parties. "I love being able to help create those special moments for my customers. Seeing photos from the event or their smile light up a room when they first see the cake, makes it all worth it."
We figured since Sarah is a baker, one of her favorite rooms in her home must be the kitchen! We had to get her advice on what she does to make her kitchen cozy for a full day of baking. "Music is a MUST!" replied Sarah. "I always alter what I listen to that fits my mood. I find having music that matches my 'tempo' for the day keeps me going and in the zone." She also added, "If not in a rush, candles are a good way to make baking relaxing and fun!"
Today is National Chocolate Chip day (yep, there's a day for everything!). It just so happens that one of Sarah's favorite cake recipes is... chocolate chip! (Guess they aren't just for cookies!) Sarah loves to bake a white cake with chocolate chips inside and share that "It pairs well with Nutella buttercream or Oreo buttercream." Looking for a way to get fancy with chocolate chips? Sarah advised, "Make a chocolate ganache drip on a cake.”
If you're looking to get creative in your own kitchen, Sarah gave us a few inspiration hints, too. "I look for aesthetics in everyday things, whether I see a flower outside that I love or a pattern on a piece of clothing." And Pinterest comes in handy for more than just home decor ideas. Sarah said, "Pinterest is a good resource to help spark ideas, too!"
